In Victorian times pyrography was more popular, being accepted as an art form called pokerwork. This because they would have used a stove to heat different shaped tools.  Today artist have available to them electric tools to enable one to have a large range of tones and shades. It is becoming popular again, Sandra is using light hardwoods such as oak, beech and berch, letting the wood grain show her a form or pattern that she then develops in a finished work of art.
